I Won a Writing Contest!
Another exciting flash fiction for you this holiday season
Howdy everyone!
I’d just like to quickly share some exciting news: I won a writing contest! A couple weeks ago, an indie book company called Your Paper Quest ran a flash fiction competition with the prompt to write something about "The Great Outdoors and the Strange Things That Live There.” To my utter surprise and delight, my story won!
The Moon Over Wilkerson Draw was vaguely inspired by CS Lewis’ space trilogy, particularly with the questions of what it means to be a “hnau” in his books. And as someone who loves hiking and working in the woods, and who also worked for the Forest Service for a few years, the setting was right up my alley! It’s hard not to let your imagination run away with you a little bit when you’re out in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by nothing but trees.
You can read The Moon Over Wilkerson Draw, as well as the other winning stories, over on Your Paper Quest's blog. I was super stoked they loved my story, and I can’t wait to write something for their next contest. I hope you’ll give it a read, and as always, please let me know what you think!
