New Flash Fiction!
Howdy folks!
I’m happy to announce that my new flash fiction story, The Green Goddess, is available to read at GoHavok.com for the next 24 hours! Did the legendary city of New York truly exist? What will archaeology look like in the far future? If you read this little yarn, you might find yourself pondering those very questions. So, if you like flash fiction, tales about archaeology, or just reading my stories in general, I hope you’ll give it a look and tell me what you think!
The Green Goddess will be free to read today, September 5th, and then will go into Havok’s members-only vault. I have a membership with them, (a very good deal if you like flash fiction stories, only $5 a year!) and I’ve really enjoyed reading through their backlog of stories while interacting with other writers. If you’re so inclined, it’s well worth checking out.
Inspiration for Archaeological Stories
As some of you might know, I studied archaeology in school, and I absolutely loved working on archaeological digs and surveys. It’s always a blast to find an object or see a place that’s been untouched for hundreds or even thousands of years, and I really wanted to share that excitement in my writing!
So, when I saw Havok’s theme for “legendary places,” I thought of the city of Troy. For a long time, historians thought Troy was a myth, but then archaeologists discovered its remains and proved its existence. What if the same thing happened to a modern city? Everyone today knows about New York City, but what if it was forgotten in the far future?
And so, I wrote my silly little story about New York, and had a lot of fun with it! I definitely want to incorporate archaeology and ancient artifacts into more of my writing down the road. I have a few story ideas that feature this field, including the early stages of a new novel, and I hope to share more archaeological tales with y’all eventually!
What’s Next?
Unfortunately, work and life have gotten busier for me, so my writing time has slowed. I’m still plugging away at several stories, but none of them are ready to release yet.
In the long term, I plan to continue submitting flash fiction to Havok when inspiration strikes. I’ll be overjoyed if they’re accepted, but even if they get rejected, I’ll share my favorite stories here with you, my favorite readers.
Besides that, I plan to slowly continue writing more stories in The Kineru Chronicles, my series of Christian fantasy short stories, as well as any other fantasy stories that come to mind. In addition, I’m slowly plugging away at a Christian urban fantasy novel, although this one is still in its very early stages. I have maybe 3 chapters of good material written, and the rest of it pretty solidly outlined. I’m excited about it though, and I can’t wait to get more time to work on it!
Anyway, that’s all I have for now. Thanks for reading, and keep an eye out for more stories down the road!
